Solar DCDB Panel
The DC distribution box protects the DC side of a solar system. It brings the PV strings together and provides DC fuses, a DC isolator and DC surge protection before the inverter.
DCDBs are sized for the string voltage, number of strings and current, in weatherproof enclosures for outdoor use.

Specifying a solar DCDB
A DCDB protects and isolates the PV strings before they reach the inverter. It typically holds gPV fuses for each string, a DC isolator rated for the system voltage, and a Type 2 DC surge protective device. All components must be rated for DC at the maximum open-circuit voltage of the array, which is higher on cold mornings.
Share the number of strings, the string open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current, and the inverter inputs. For larger plants needing current monitoring per string, see the string monitoring and combiner box. On the AC side, see the solar ACDB; and see PV modules and all solar equipment.
Where it is used
- Rooftop solar systems
- Small and medium ground-mounted plants
Solar DCDB Panel – FAQ
Why is DC surge protection needed?
Long PV cable runs can pick up lightning-induced surges; DC SPDs protect the inverter and modules from these transients.
