Transformers – distribution, power and special duty

Oil-cooled and dry type transformers built to your MVA/kVA rating, voltage ratio, tapping and cooling requirements, to suit your site and network.

Range

Six transformer types

Select a type for typical ratings and applications.

Oil-cooled three-phase distribution transformer in a fenced yard (illustrative)

Distribution Transformer

Oil-cooled three-phase distribution transformers up to 33 kV class for factories, buildings and utility networks.

Large power transformer at a high-voltage substation (illustrative)

Power Transformer

Oil-immersed power transformers for substations, heavy industry and renewable plants, built to your MVA rating, voltage class and cooling requirement.

Oil-cooled inverter duty transformer at a solar plant (illustrative)

Solar Inverter Duty Transformer (IDT)

Inverter duty transformers for solar PV plants: step up inverter output to 11/22/33 kV, designed for harmonics and daily load cycling.

Pad-mounted transformer for a wind farm (illustrative)

Wind Turbine Transformer

Step-up transformers for wind turbine generators, built for variable loading, vibration and outdoor wind-farm conditions.

Heavy-duty oil-cooled furnace transformer (illustrative)

Furnace Transformer

Furnace transformers for induction and arc furnaces: high secondary currents, wide tapping ranges and robust construction for melt shops.

Cast-resin dry type transformer in an indoor electrical room (illustrative)

Dry Type Transformer

Dry type (cast resin) transformers for indoor installation in buildings, hospitals and plants where oil-filled units are unsuitable.

Buying guide

Oil-cooled or dry type, and how to specify

Oil-cooled transformers are economical, handle overloads well and suit outdoor yards; they need oil containment and periodic oil testing. Dry type transformers use cast resin insulation, carry no fire risk from oil and are preferred indoors, in high-rise buildings, hospitals and basements, at a higher price.

Whatever the type, a quotation needs the kVA or MVA rating, primary and secondary voltages, vector group, tapping range, impedance, cooling, installation location and the standard to follow. For substations and heavy industry see power transformers; for solar plants, the inverter duty transformer; and for melt shops, the furnace transformer. Switchgear is on the HT panels page.
