Flameproof Motors
Flameproof motors have an enclosure built to contain an internal explosion and prevent it from igniting the surrounding gas or vapour. They are required in hazardous (classified) areas of chemical, pharmaceutical, petroleum and paint plants.
Motors are selected for the area classification, gas group and temperature class of your site and come with the relevant certification.

Specifying a flameproof motor
A flameproof motor is built so that an explosion of gas inside the enclosure cannot ignite the atmosphere outside. To select one, you need the hazardous-area classification of the location: the zone (Zone 1 or Zone 2), the gas group (for example IIA, IIB or IIC) and the temperature class (T1 to T6) of the substances handled. The motor certification must cover all three.
Also confirm kW, speed, voltage, mounting and any VFD operation, which needs a motor certified for inverter duty.
