For homes and small offices, start with the essential loads only; for businesses, include motors and their starting current. Our guide on how to size a diesel generator explains each step with an example.
Choose a silent generator for outdoor use near people, or an open set for a dedicated room, and add an AMF panel if the set should start by itself. See also open vs silent sets.
