Spiral Bevel Gearboxes
Spiral bevel gears transmit power between shafts at a right angle. Their curved teeth engage progressively, giving smoother and quieter running and higher load capacity than straight bevel gears, with efficiency well above worm gearing.
They are used where a compact right-angle drive must carry high torque continuously.
Bevel or worm for a right-angle drive?
Both turn the drive through 90 degrees, but they suit different jobs. A spiral bevel (bevel-helical) gearbox stays efficient across its ratio range and handles high power continuously, which makes it the better choice for conveyors, crushers, mixers and cooling tower fans. A worm gearbox is more compact for high ratios in one stage but loses more energy as heat.
For sizing, share input power and speed, output speed, the load type and service factor, mounting position and shaft arrangement. Spiral bevel units are usually driven by IE3 motors; see all gearboxes.

Spiral Bevel Gearboxes – FAQ
Spiral bevel or worm gearbox for a right-angle drive?
Spiral bevel units are more efficient and suit continuous, high-power duty; worm units give high reduction in one stage and are compact and economical for lighter duty.
